Trying to recover filesystem

Hello,

We've had some trouble earlier today, and lost the previous day's
data. Each night we run a script which is called by cron to do our
backups. At its heart, the script does ufsdumnp like so..

/usr/sbin/ufsdump 0uf /dev/dat /u

Every night I get emailed to me this...

   DUMP: Dumping /dev/md/rdsk/d30 (santafe:/u) to /dev/dat.
DUMP: Mapping (Pass I) [regular files]
   DUMP: Mapping (Pass II) [directories]
   DUMP: Estimated 23108734 blocks (11283.56MB).
   DUMP: Dumping (Pass III) [directories]
DUMP: Dumping (Pass IV) [regular files]
DUMP: 7.88% done, finished in 1:57
DUMP: 15.86% done, finished in 1:46
DUMP: 25.29% done, finished in 1:28
DUMP: 36.24% done, finished in 1:10
DUMP: 47.50% done, finished in 0:55
DUMP: 57.73% done, finished in 0:43
DUMP: 64.93% done, finished in 0:37
DUMP: 76.75% done, finished in 0:24
DUMP: 89.22% done, finished in 0:10
DUMP: 97.38% done, finished in 0:02
   DUMP: 23108734 blocks (11283.56MB) on 1 volume at 1857 KB/sec
   DUMP: DUMP IS DONE
DUMP: Level 0 dump on Tue Mar 08 00:06:12 2005

This is of course, only a part of what goes on. The script does the same
dump for the other filesystems, and the email I receive lists all the
partitions that are dumped. This particular partition is second on the list.

I know I should know ufsrestore better, but what I try just gets me
nowhere. I wish we had Legato, but we don't have Legato, so here I am.

This is what I've tried

# ufsrestore if /dev/dat
Mount volume 2
then enter volume name (default: /dev/dat)

This is a single volume backup. If I choose the default, it asks for volume
3...4..5...6.ad infinitum

I've tried a variety of things, but nothing is working. It almost looks
like there is no backup, but I'm seeing the output of ufsdump each
night. It's showing that the fs is being dumped to tape.

Ideas, reasons, suggestions?
