###How can I change Sol 8, 32-bit to 64-bit####
Thanks to Dave Leach,Ole Martin Refvik,Rick McKinney,Mark Hargrave,Deborah
Santomauro,Jeremy Rodriguez,Gaziz Nugmanov,
Responses are summarized
=======================
1. http://soldc.sun.com/articles/64_bit_booting.html
2. boot from the file /platform/sun4u/kernel/sparcv9/unix
OK>boot <boot_disk> /platform/sun4u/kernel/sparcv9/unix
3. Document ID 21434 FAQ on Booting Solaris to either the 64-bit
kernel or
the 32-bit kernel
4. /usr/sbin/eeprom boot-file="kernel/sparcv9/unix" then
reboot
5. Login as root and use the eeprom command to set the boot-file
parameter
to the 32-bit kernel:
# /usr/sbin/eeprom boot-file="kernel/unix"
The next system reboot will boot the 32-bit kernel or
(OR)
===
vi /platform/sun4u/boot.conf
uncomment and verify that the line looks exactly like
this:
ALLOW_64_BIT_KERNEL_ON_UltraSPARC_1_CPU=false
reboot and then once the system is back up, verify that it is truly
running
32-bit with "isainfo -b"
6. eeprom or the ok prompt
boot-file = kernel/unix
Will always boot into 32-bit mode
Thanks
Muhammad
