Dear Sun Admins,

We have a Canon IR 2200 printer that does not have driver support in Solaris
(Vendor website says that). It is installed as a NIS network tcp printer and
available to users through NIS mapping. The probelm we face is that no other
features are availabe to the users (tray selection , paper size selection) etc
through the Solaris generic lp/lpr . There is a commercial software available
to utilize the printer features. But I would like to implement a cost
effective solution. I have downloaded CUPS and installed it in a test machine
and put the ppd file available from the vendor (windows ppd file, they say!).
Now CUPS allows me to select trays, diffetent paper sizes etc.But my
applications cannot utilize those features as CUPS over wrote the default lp
programmes with its own versions in the test machine.None of the switches
those work with the generic lp commands are working now. Have any of you
faced similar situations? How do you select paper size and tray with CUPS lp
commands? I need only these features right now. Since it is a priority one
task assigned to me I need all your support. I have spent a fair amount of
going through CUPS documentation, but still at dark. I appreciate any kind of
help/links which will help me to solve this problem.

Thanks in advance.

Divyaprakash

PS: By the way, is it not strange that a vendor like Canon says that the
customer should buy the printer driver seperate? Looks like the printer driver
is free to download in US and Canada, but nowhere else.
