List:

We attempted a Solaris 8 upgrade of a UE4500 server with a A3500 array (RM
622) and which also has connections via FC point-to-point (JNI hba's) to a
HDS array. Along with this is a standard Stogane Node Install of
SBU/Networker 6.1.1 which meant installing the SCSI passthru driver (lus..)
as well as other software that installs some pseudo drivers (ie. TotalNet
Advanced Server). But we are having all sorts of problems the most severe
of which are:

- reboot times are horribly slow
- Legato configuration is also slow (part where it probably calls the
"inquire" command, which is really slow..)
- installation of other software is really - really slow - specially with
those that installs drivers or pseudo drivers

Here is the procedure we used:
- Install OS
- Install HBA driver for HDS LUN
- edit sd.conf/st.conf (HDS have luns 0-255 for targets 0-3, A3500 have
luns 0-6 for targets 0-1)
- Reboot
- All LUNS from HDS and Amdahl appear in format
- Install Rm622 software... takes about 30 minutes..
- Reboot -- takes about 1 hour
- checked LUN's via "lad" and "healthck" -- all okay
- Install Networker 6.1.1 (Storgae Node, Client, SCSI drivers, Man page...)
takes 30 minutes...
- Reboot (reconfiguration as install created a /reconfigure file..)
- Takes about 2 hours
- Test running LGT "inquire" ... does not complete just hangs and takes a
long time to CTRL-C...
- so much for Legato install and jbconfig... try installing TotalNET which
installs some form of a pseudo device driver... just seem to hang and
noticed devfsadm, picld and add_drv very active...

I have a reason to believe the culprit here is RM622's rdriver as it tries
to bind to all LUNS it sees... Any tips/ideas/workarounds for this problem?

Thanks.

NELSON
