Using smpatch on remote systems

I am attempting to use Sun Patch Manager running on Solaris 9 to update
remote Solaris 8 systems. The manual does not go into detail about this
functionality, it appears as if you log into the Sol9 box as root and run
smpatch analyze -n remote-system. However that does not appear to work, it
asks for a root password and then appears as if it logs into the local
server instead of the remote server. Does smpatch need to be installed on
the remote machines?
