Hi SunManagers,
I'm with a bit of a problem with a Sun Fire V240. It looks that for the
1st time I got myself totally locked out of a Sun.
I installed solaris 10 last month in order to test the new goodies, at
the time I had problems logging in to the ALOM (unknown admin password)
but as I had a working solaris installation I was able to reset the
password. At the time I noticed that the serial console was read-only,
everything I typed was ignored or at least not echoed. Break signal
during boot didn't work, and so on. However I got all the normal console
output.
At the time that was not a problem, so, I reseted the ALOM password and
installed Solaris 10 using the network console.
The problem is that now, I don't have ANY access to the machine.
The ALOM admin password is not working anymore, I have no idea why, I
have the login prompt but the password is refused. It is possible that I
have forgotten the password, but I don't think so, I'm 99% sure about
the password I set last month. But I digress
Last time I shut this machine down I was accessing it with ssh, but now
it looks that it's not starting up anymore, neither is telnet.
A port scan only reports
Port State Service
111/udp open sunrpc
514/udp open syslog
4045/udp open lockd
32771/udp open sometimes-rpc6
32772/udp open sometimes-rpc8
111/tcp open sunrpc
4045/tcp open lockd
32771/tcp open sometimes-rpc5
No SSH, no Telnet :-(
And the serial console is still READ-ONLY, nothing that I do there is
noticed. :-(
When I connect the power cable the ALOM looks to boot ok, with this
messages (see below):
But still, the console is read only.
I tried to remove the disks in order to stop booting, it worked and I
got the sc> prompt.
But the console was still read only!!!!
Anyone have any suggestion about what to do ?????
As it is, the only chance I see is to get a boot disc from other V240
with a working solaris and then use scadm to change the admin password,
problem is that we don't have other 240, I had to request that from our
support... :-(
But what about the console being read-only ? What could have happened ???
Is there any switch/jumper/whatever to force ttya to be the sysconsole ???
Could this be a hw problem ? The RX pin on ttya busted ???? That would
be a 1st for me, never had any problem with serial ports on Suns, and
I'm using Sun since Sun LX... :-(
any help would be very welcome...
thanks in advance.
