Solaris 9 /etc/shadow file, $ character as first entry.

Thanks for the replies so far.

The consesus is that the $ in an /etc/shadow password
entry indicates that a newer encryption scheme is being
used to encrypt /etc/shadow entries (such as MD5).

Does anyone know how to force Solaris 9 to encrypt
ONLY using the standard UNIX encryption algorithm
(crypt)?

And if I do this, will this "break" any accounts whose
passwords have been encrypted using MD5 or other encryption
algorithms?

I would expect so, but just wanted to verify.

Thanks again in advance.
