HylaFax on a Netra X1, which serial port

Dear managers,

I am trying to setup HylaFax on a Netra X1 with Solaris 9. I
successfully built HylaFax from source. During the configuration

        /usr/local/sbin/faxsetup

I am asked for the serial port the modem is connected to. My Elsa
MicroLink 28.8TQV is connected to the second serial port using the
25Pin Sub-D that came with the Netra and a straight-through patch
cable. I therefore typed "ttyb" and got

Probing for best speed to talk to modem: 38400 19200 9600 4800 2400 1200
Unable to deduce DTE-DCE speed; check that you are using the
correct device and/or that your modem is setup properly. If
all else fails, try the -s option to lock the speed.

No LEDs of the modem were blinking during this test. What serial port
should I use for this? Do I have to type ttyb or /dev/ttyb? Any chance
the LomA port willwork better. Any further configuration steps
necessary?

I also tried my luck with

        tip /dev/cua/b
        connected

an hope I would see anything when typing ATZ or the like but I get no
response. The session is blocked. Not even Ctrl-C helps.

What am I missing here? Thanks a lot!

Regards,

   Andreas
