File descriptors and .nfs files

I am running into problems with hidden .nfs files that seem to be related to
file descriptors. First I'll give a brief description of our environment:
We have 2 V880's that are running apache / Tomcat and one V880 that is an
Oracle Server. WebServer1 is connected to a T3 storage array by fiber
cables and the other servers are NFS mounted to Web1.

Are java application has the ability to export data to a zip file and then
download that file to client machines. The export feature copies
files(word, excel, powerpoint, etc..) that are stored elsewhere on the t3 to
a folder and creates html, stylesheets, and text files to give everything a
nice look once downloaded. The problem is when it creates and copies these
files it is creating .nfs files example (.nfs69E4, .nfs79E4, .nfsB8E4). If
the user happened to be on Web1 which is directly connected to the T3 then
there is not a problem everything is deleted cleanly. But if the user was
logged into the webserver on Web2 everything is deleted except for these
hidden .nfs files. This is a problem because until you manually log on to
Web1 and delete these files the filedescriptors will stay open until the FD
limit is hit and tomcat is manually restarted. The odd thing is if you try
to manually delete these files from Web2 they will delete but another will
create in its place with a different name.
