Upgrade to Sun-Fire V240 and hostid

I recently purchased the first of several machines that I want to upgrade.

These machines are used for development and have several hostid licensed software packages on them.

It seems that it is not possible to modify the hostid of the V240 box. This is a huge problem as that changing all of the licenses is a major pain, in additon some of this is using older software and it is unclear whether the vendor will give me a new license file for the stuff that we are using. Basically they would want us to upgrade.

I tried the solution suggested by:
http://www.unix.ms/hostid.html

Don't even bother. I bought the new SCC card, but the mkp and mkpl commands don't work and if you pull the original SCC card out the system will shutdown within 60 seconds. It appears that it may have copied the cofiguration to the new card, but I haven't tested it.

I am trying to figureout how to modify the SCC that they ship in the new servers to change the hostid to match an older Ultra2 server that I want to upgrade.

I cannot believe that Sun made it hard for me to upgrade from older equipment. It seems to me that making it difficult is a good way to discourage sales.

Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
