Hi,

I still having some confusing over how to get the time sync
on all SUNS.

The suggestion I was given are:

        1) rdate <hostname> or <IP address>
        2) www.truetime.com - an atomic clock device which can be installed
your local network.
        3) sort out my firewall - unfortunately our Japanese colleagues will
not this for us.
        4) if you are using Solaris you just need to modify files in
/etc/inet directory
        5) why not just sync everything to NIST - this need to go through FW
so forget it!
        6) have a look at this it helped me out for RedHAt
http://www.angelfire.com/scifi/danilody/standard/ntp.html
         7) You might want to check out the series of 3 articles on NTP at
         www.sun.com/blueprints

thanks to all who replied.

Just been trying out rdate. At the moment I am unable to determine
what is the correct system time. During installation we have set our time
zone
(TZ) to probably to GB this is indicated by the setting in /etc/default/init

by changing this to e.g. GMT time changes to correct time.

The server I am using as a reference has correct time when TZ is set to GMT
but incorrect when set to GB.

I copied init to desktop and moreover I have added setenv TZ GMT to our
.cshrc
files and also uncommented out the line

TIMEZONE=EST5EDT

in /etc/default/login

and logging in shows one time GMT. I don't know what will happens when time
changes
this autumn.

Any comments are welcome.

Subject: system time synchronisation
Sensitivity: Private

Hi All:

I would like to synchronise time/date for our unix network so I installed
ntp-4.1.1a
and set-up rc2.d file S99ntpd and upon starting this I get

[/etc/rc2.d]-> ./S99ntpd start
Starting NTP daemon, takes about 1 minute...
10 Jun 16:15:32 ntpdate[1334]: ntpdate 4.1.1a@1.791 Mon Jun 3 05:02:00 EDT
2002 (1)
10 Jun 16:15:36 ntpdate[1334]: no server suitable for synchronization found

I assume I have not set-up our time server and would like to know how to set
one up
as we have no direct access to internet from unix.

I would like all other unix desktop to synchronise time and date using one
of our server
as reference time/date server.
