Hi all,

I ended up doing what most of you suggested:
1) Tried to fsck and mount the root partition to no avail.
2) Booted single-user from the Solaris 2.7 CD, turned on the network
(using ifconfig and route), and then proceeded with copying the data I
needed to a different machine.

Thank you all very much for your input.

Subject: can't boot Ultra-2 (Solaris 2.6)

Hi all,

I have an old Ultra-2 (running Solaris 2.6), which has been offline for
the past few months. When I powered the machine on earlier today, I got
the following error:

ok boot
Boot device: disk File and args:
Boot load failed.
The file just loaded does not appear to be executable.
ok

I used a Solaris 2.7 CD to boot the machine, and I was able to see the
disk using format. Here is the partition information:

Part Tag
0 root
1 swap
2 backup
5 var
6 usr
7 data

I am able to mount ok the 5,6, & 7 partitions, but I can't do the same
with partition 0. When I try to mount it, I get the following error:
$ mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 /a mount: /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 is not this fstype

fsck doesn't work on it either.

I really need to copy the data located on partition 7 to another machine
(through the network), but I am unable to do so, until the machine boots
properly.

Please, let me know what other info, you need me to provide.

I'd really appreciate your help. Thank you very much!
