resetting a TIP connection

I have a serial connection from my desktop that I connect to /dev/ttya on
a server that I am going to build. I typed "more" instead of "ls -lFa" on
a binary file and now that connection is totally hosed. Even after
rebooting the server I was working on, typing
tip hardwire-a

will sit idle for 10 seconds and then report "link down". Anyone have a
suggestion on how to reset this connection short of rebooting my
workstation? TIA and I will summarize.
