System hangs while shutting down

Hi everyone,

I am having yet another problem today. I have posted a similar problem a
year back and never got a proper solution.

Now on my new V880 server also same problem started appearing.

The problem is system hangs when init 6 or init 5 or init 0 or shutdown is
issued. It gives the message going down on signal 15 and hangs.

I have to do stop A and boot the machine. Obviously, most of the times I
have to do FSCK on root file system.

Any idea why the systems hangs during shutdown? How can I find out at what
stage it hangs? Is there any debug option?

The system configuration is as follows:

V880 - 4 CPU - 8 GB RAM

Storage : 3510 Storadge - 1.7 TB on Q-Logic HBA

IBM ESS SAN connected on Q - Logic HBA

IBM SDD Installed for Virtual Pathing

NIS+ Root Server

TSM Backup Client Installed.

I have a suspicion that after installing NIS+ it started behaving this way.
Does anyone face similar problem?

I know I can remove the NIS+ and check but system is already in production.
So, would like to know before doing that.

Regards,

Sajid
