Veritas Vol Mgr 3.5 problem on Solaris 8

Hopefully this isn't too far off the subject, but i'm having a strange
Veritas Volume Manager problem that i'm not finding any references to on
SunSolve or Google. Nothing in the Veritas doco either.

Environment: Solaris 8, Veritas Volume Manager 3.5
Output of uname:
 SunOS HOSTNAME 5.8 Generic_117000-05 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-280R

I encapsulated my boot disk (c1t0d0) and added it to rootdg. Rebooted
several times and all is well. Went ahead and moved my other
filesystems off my 2nd internal disk and put under Veritas control. Now
there are no filesystems on 2nd disk. Vtoc on both primary boot disk
(c1t0d0) and second internal disk (c1t1d0) are identical. Setup dummy
partitions on 2nd disk (c1t1d0) in /etc/vfstab that are identical to
native solaris partitions on boot disk (c1t0d0) and point to the
equivalent slices on c1t1d0. After encapsulation I will delete these
partitions and manually mirror my volumes. We've done this many times
before with no problems.

I now want to encapsulate my other internal disk (c1t1d0) and add that
to rootdg so I can manually mirror my volumes currently on the boot
disk. I do not wish to initialize/automatically mirror using vxdiskadm.

I selected the encapsulate option in vxdiskadm and selected c1t1d0. The
process goes all the way until the last step before encapsulation and
fails with the following error:

"The encapsulation operation failed with the following error:

Disk group rootdg already contains an encapsulated disk."

Has anyone seen this before? Has something changed in v.3.5 that would
prevent 2 encapsulated disks in rootdg?

Thanks,
T
