Dear All,
I had to remove the first, mirrored IDE drive from an
Ultra10/Solaris 6.
The problem is that I can't boot up the box since then
because I just get these error messages:
hostname: sunserver
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0: No such device or address
The / file system (/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0) is being
checked.
Can't open /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0
dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0: CAN'T CHECK FILE SYSTEM.
dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN
fsck MANUALLY.
WARNING - Unable to repair the / filesystem. Run
.....
dropping me in system maintenance mode.
running fsck manually gives me
Can't open /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0
Back in OpenBoot, probe-ide replies as expected (all
disks found)
booting from cdrom and mounting the disk0 workes and
running fsck returns ok.
If I connect the old, faulty disk again than I get
these errors:
Could not unlink /dev/rdsk/c0xxxxxxxx
because: Read-only file system
....
Configuring the /dev directory (compatibility devices)
ln: cannot create /dev/fb: Read-only file system
setmnt: Cannot open /etc/mnttab for writing
INIT: Cannot create /var/adm/utmp or /var/adm/utmpx
INIT: failed write of utmpx entry: " "
INIT: failed write of utmpx entry: " "
INIT: SINGLE USER MODE
And I can't edit any file because it just mounts
the / partition in read-only mode.
If I try to boot from a CD than vi core dumps when
I try to open the vfstab file...
I've found a similar problem in the archive
http://www.netsys.com/sunmgr/1995-11/msg00083.html
but none of the boot -r, nor the boot -a helped...
If I rename the path_to_inst file than it's
complaining
that it couldn't find the file or can't open it.
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
John
