dcc processes appear to be freezing sendmail server

We are running following :

Sun 240R , Solaris 9 , patch 112233-08 , Sun Sendmail 8.12.9

On a couple of occasions recently teh mail service has frozen. I have set up monitoring
using 'ps -aux' and 'uptime' , an extract from this during the 'frozen' period shows :

Tue Oct 5 10:10:01 BST 2004

 10:10am up 4 day(s), 19:38, 3 users, load average: 5.21, 5.35, 4.92

sar shows almost 100% on usr , constantly. Looking back through my sar records shows that this
had been the case for several days , during which time e-mail functionality was unimpaired.

The maximum number of users we have accessing e-mail concurrently is 120 , we are running Netscape
e-mail client , imap daemon.

I rebooted the whole machine , and now e-mail works OK. No dcc processes are currently
running.

Any ideas what might be causing the problem ?
