Notebook for support.

For the last few years I have been carrying around an IBM 240x Thinkpad.
This was the best little notebook I have ever had, mainly because it was so
light and compact. It was as small as possible but with a decent sized
keyboard and a serial port. I kept a D-Link network card permanently plugged
into the PCMCIA slot. Now some lowlife has stolen it. I've been looking for
a replacement, but nothing I've seen seems to be as good. Everything seems
to have a touch pad which increases the footpad by 50% and makes touch
typing difficult. I have found nothing at all with a serial port. The
standard responses from salespeople are 1) you can turn off the touchpad.
Well sometimes you can't (Dell) and even if you could it is still extra bulk
and weight; and 2) Use a USB to serial adaptor. Well that's just one more
piece of junk I'd have to carry around.

Any suggestions as to a suitable replacement?

Thanks,
