cronjob failing to dump to tape

Dear All,

Can anyone enlighten me on this problem

We have a nightly cronjob that dumps all our database checkpoints to tape,
unfortunately we get the following error message:

"* Ingres Version II 2.6/0305 (su4.us5/00) logout
Tue Sep 14 03:10:40 2004
  DUMP: Writing 32 Kilobyte records
DUMP: Date of this level 0 dump: Tue Sep 14 03:10:42 2004
DUMP: Date of last level 0 dump: the epoch
  DUMP: Dumping /dev/vx/rdsk/backupDG/ckpVOL (orix:/ckp) to /dev/rmt0.
DUMP: Mapping (Pass I) [regular files]
  DUMP: Mapping (Pass II) [directories]
  DUMP: Estimated 85343702 blocks (41671.73MB).
DUMP: NEEDS ATTENTION: Cannot open `orix:/dev/rmt0'. Do you want to
retry the open?: ("yes" or "no") DUMP: The ENTIRE dump is aborted."

However, if I cut and paste the following line:

/usr/sbin/ufsdump 0uf /dev/rmt0 /ckp

from the script, the dump works.

I've checked /var/adm/messages and no error messages reported pertaining
to the tape unit and no errors reported in /var/cron/log
