passwdutil.so.1 prblem

hi all,

I have a Solaris 8 SUN server.when i try to change the password of
any user it gives me the following error.

#passwd

(ld.so.1 : fatal : passwd
: passwdutil.so.1 open failed: no such file and directory.
killed)

While the
passwdutil.so.1 file is in the /usr/lib directory. please suggest me what
could be the reason for that.
