DS 5.1 and Solaris 8 clients

Hi all,

I have a question about Directory Services 5.1 on Solaris.
How can one get the auto_home tables mapped to Solaris 8 clients
without applying the 108993-xx patch from Sun?

The only solution I have found would be to dump the output of those
tables into a perl script which would update /etc/auto_home. This has all
the characteristics of a hacked out solution, which obviously is not a good
thing for the long term. I experimented with the patch, but it requires
installing too many other patches that I am not interested in loading on
some of the Sun8 clients. By the way, the LDAP Servers are Solaris 9, and
the majority of the clients are as well, there are just a couple of other
critical machines on which a few users will need access to their home
directories..

I understand why the maps dont work to some degree, but I don't know
how to fix the situation. So far I have tried modifying my Solaris 8 client
profile, adding maps to it which never appear in the LDAP client file on the
clients. I have tried directly modifying the client file, which also didnt
work. I am pretty much out of ideas - minus the one I posted.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

--Thanks
