5.8 gcc error

little help here.

i'm attempting to set up openssh on 5.8 on a 4 proc
e450.

i get this error.
checking for gcc... /usr/local/bin/gcc
checking for C compiler default output... configure:
error: C compiler cannot create executables

probably a simple issue but i can't wrap my poor tired
head around it.
