How to determine if machine is 32 or 64 bit?

We have recetnly added some 64 bit SPARC machines to an environment that
has alwasy been 32 bit only.

I need to modify some of my scripts to do different things on the 64 bit
machines, from the 32 bit ones. I thought that my script should be able to
get this from uname, but:

Here is uname -a from a 32 bit machine

SunOS AP0502 5.5.1 Generic_103640-37 sun4m sparc SUNW,SPARCstation-5

and hre it is from a 64 bit one:

SunOS AW0550 5.8 Generic_108528-13 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Blade-100

Now, granted they are differen Solaris versions, but I would rather be able
to detect the 32/64 bit status itslef.

What can I do to acomplish this?
