Hello Managers,

We are performing multi-system upgrade using Jumpstart images of Solaris 9
4/04. These systems include 2 R420 servers and a new SunFire V440 server.
After installation the Solaris Management Console functions properly on the
R420's, meaning we can access it from a remote machine (using smc) and fully
utilize the various tools (view disks, examine patches installed, etc...)
without any problems. When the same jumpstart "image" is used on the V440
however we see the following when using smc:

1. Connecting and viewing the available toolbox works fine.
2. Opening the toolbox to see the available tools works.
3. When we try to use a tool, like to view the disks, authentication
succeeds.
4. After authentication we see a "Security manager alert" stating a tool
downloaded from the server (the V440) is trying to read
/usr/sadm/lib/smc/lib/ContextHelp.jar. If we grant access it immediately
happens again.
5. After granting access twice, we get an error stating "Disks is not able
to connect to the server because the WBEM server daemon does not appear to
be running."

Here's what we've tried to date:

1. Manually started and stopped the wbem daemon using both
/etc/init.d/init.wbem and /etc/rc2.d/S90wbem
2. Reverting to java version 1.4.1 (from the 1.4.2 included with the 4/04
release) on both client and server machines
3. Applying the 9_Recommended patch cluster that includes a comprehensive
WBEM patch (112945-27,
http://sunsolve6.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-21-112945-27-1). This
set of patches was also applied to the R420's and did not have any adverse
effect.

We spent the majority of yesterday trying to understand what's happening,
but with no luck. Searching google.com and groups.google.com only found 1 or
2 other people with a similar question but with no answers. We've run out of
ideas, but it's unnerving that this functionality isn't working on the V440.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

-Sam
