A1000 question

Gurus,
        I haven't been up on technology as I should be, so I am hoping some
here can shed some light on a question for me. I have an E420 that has
reach maximum capacity. I need to add more disk space for file systems
and I was wondering if the current technology still says add an A1000
and stack it with 12 36gb drives ? Is this the current solution to add
more disks or is there some other way to go about this ?
