"...File transfer server could not be started it exited unexpectedly. Exit
value 0 was returned."

Hello all,

Here is more information regarding this issue. And as I continue this issue
please allow me to extend my thanks for the replies received so far as well
as offer my apologies for the time in between dealing with this issue as
I've had other duties I've been forced to attend to.

Further information: When I log into the machine using ssh as root (indeed
a bad idea) the invocation of sftp via the windows GUI works. However, if I
login as a regular user, then /bin/su I get my error condition as well as
working as a regular user.

### Original Message ####

I've installed (and compiled) a non-commercial version of ssh for my
Solaris 8 machine. Using a windows 32-bit client I am able to access the
machine with no problem using ssh. When I try to invoke sftp from the
client side I get the error:

File transfer server could not be started it exited unexpectedly. Exit
value 0 was returned.

I've looked at my /etc/ssh/ssh_config file but this is a generic file that
has not been touched (and has no mention of sftp) and in other
installations (Solaris 7) I've never had to bother with it or anything else
to get ssh & sftp working. When I use the command line on the client and
the server sftp seems to be working, would anyone have suggestions on
solving this?

Regards,

David Rieger
