Hi there,
We currently have some software installed (java) which is
behaving weirdly. It runs for days then suddenly takes most of the CPU % up
for all 4 CPU's. I've installed 'top' to see what is going on, but is there
a way of seeing if the CPU is happy, How do you know if CPU's are running
ok? Because we think it could be something to do with the heat in our server
room!

last pid: 25870; load averages: 4.09, 4.11, 4.10
10:14:14
58 processes: 56 sleeping, 2 on cpu
CPU states: % idle, % user, % kernel, % iowait, % swap
Memory: 2048M real, 1280M free, 810M swap in use, 8952M swap free

PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE TIME CPU COMMAND
  2952 aps 51 10 0 209M 174M cpu/2 594.0H 97.73% java
 25870 aps 1 0 0 1824K 1248K cpu/3 0:00 0.36% top
 25869 upcnl 1 50 0 2656K 1648K sleep 0:00 0.23% top

Is there a log file where the state of the CPU can be trace? or
any usual commands to give you some good information back?

regards,

Alistair Mckeown
