Hello managers,

I have a sun StorEdge tape drive directly attached to the sun E420 server running solaris 8, and I use tar command to backup all local user's data to this tape drive. It worked fine before. but it doesn't work now.

by using mt or mt fsf or mt rewind to check the tape drive status, move or rewind the tape, all respondings seem all right;

but whenever i start running tar, it gives me error messages as:
tar: tar read error, I/O error, if i do: tar tvf /dev/rmt/0 ......
or tar: tar write error, I/O error, if i do: tar cvf /dev/rmt/0 ....

when i look into the log file, it shows me such meassages as below:
.....
scsi [ID...kern.warning] warning: /pci@1f,4000/scsi@4,1/st@4,0 (st 25)
     error for command: write error level: fatal
     requested block 0 error block: 0
     vendor: HP serial number: 9 $DR-1
     sense key: aborted command
     ASC: 0x4b(data phase error). ASC0:0x0, FRU:0x0
     .....
    full of similar error information in the log file...

I even couldn't figure it out whether it is a hardware problem or software (tar tool) problem, could anyone hint me what is wrong with my tape drive, and how to fix it? I really need your help...

Thanks to all of you for your time and your help in advance!

chunhang
