Broken local display of remote java apps after installing Solaris 8_x86 Recommended jumbo patch.

Hello Sunmanagers!

I have a Dell PC running Solaris 8 x86.
I use it mainly to connect to a remote headless v480 with Solaris 9
(112233-11) to run jnbSA, the NetBackup java GUI. All was working fine and
well until I decided to apply the latest Solaris 8_x86 recommended jumbo
patch from Sun (which upgrades the kernel from 108529-17 to 117351-02).

Since then, I can run java applications LOCALLY ok (i.e. smc), but when I
ssh -X to the remote v480 they (the java apps: jnbSA, smc, etc...) just
don't work anymore. [ It all works fine if I connect to the v480 from a
third box, so I rule out the backup server itself. ]

All I get is the external frame with just the title bar in it (i.e. "Solaris
Management Console 2.1" or "Veritas NetBackup") and the whole area inside in
grey.

If I run top on the Dell PC I see that the XSun process progressively takes
up to 98% CPU time and the box almost freezes.

Here is what I see on the command line:

$ jnbSA &
[1] 17457
$
        The log file for this execution instance is
        /usr/openv/java/logs/lserena.jnbSA.17457.log

<here is where I get the grey window and the Xsun process clogs the CPU>

$ kill -9 %1
[1]+ Killed jnbSA
$ more /usr/openv/java/logs/lserena.jnbSA.17457.log

Your DISPLAY environment variable is set as follows: backup:10.0

java version "1.4.0_04"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.0_04-b04) Java
HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.0_04-b04, mixed mode)

$

What am I missing here?
Has anybody come across anything similar or could you please point me in the
right direction?

Thank you in advance
