Redundant power supplies aren't.

Folks,

Need some info for those that utilize the SunFire 280R. I have close to
50 of these servers at
a remote site, all running Solaris 8, latest patches, dual power
supplies, dual cpus, etc, etc.
In the last 2 months I have had 4 servers just quit. It appears that I
am coming to the end of
the power supplies life cycle and with approximately 46 servers that
haven't failed yet, my
dilemna is that I will start getting alot of calls. These servers just
quit. It has been the 01
power supply that died, although one of the servers both died.
There isn't anything in /var/crash, nothing in messages, and no
indication in prtdiag that they
are having problems or have failed. I run BigBrother to monitor and
nothing shows up on
this as well.
All documentation states that the servers are power supply redundant,
but its been pretty
obvious that they aren't. I took the 02 power supply and moved it to
the 01 slot and vice-
versa and the servers are back up awaiting replacement. With the 01
power supply working
and the server up, just pulling the 02 power supply and dropping in the
new one works without
taking the servers down, which again doesn't make sense.
So, what am I missing or doing wrong on these servers? Are they
redundant and I am missing
a patch, a switch, or something. Right now with the 02 power supply
dead, other than a light
on the front panel telling me something is wrong, nothing shows up in
any log or prtdiag.

thanks for any info help, pointers, in advance.
