To Those Who Can Help:

I am trying to install Trusted Solaris 1.2 on a SparcStation5 hard disk. Let
me start by saying that I suspect that this particular hard drive is bad,
since the procedure works on other hard drives. I received the drive from
off-site and do not know if it ever worked.

I boot from the Trusted Solaris 1.2 CD. I go to format the drive. I format
the drive (actually, I dit it twice) and during the format process, it appears
to write random data to the disk in 2 separate passes. When I go back to the
format process, I get the following information:
   selecting sd1:<SUN2.1G>
   [disk formatted, defect list found]

When I quit the format process, the .profile then attempts to install the
SunOS mini-root on the drive, but the following is printed out:
   checking writeability of /dev/rsd1b
dd: creat: /dev/rsd1b: No such device or address
Error: could not open or write to disk "/dev/rsd1b"
   exiting to single user shell

I tried to change jumper settings on this hard drive to see if it had
termination issues, but that did not seem to be the case.

Is there any hope for this hard disk?

Thank you very much,

Tom Clark
