Dear managers,
thanks to all that responded (too many to list). It was recommended to
rebuild rsync with 64 bit options. Others suggested to install a recent
version of rsync. I was using 3.1.2. After upgrading to 3.6.2 from
sunfreeware.com and installing libpopt (required by rsync now) on both
machines all worked well again also for files larger than 2GByte.
