Hi,
Has anybody had any experience yet with the new SPARC IV processors?
Are there any unbiased Performance Benchmarks directly comparing these CPUs?
My SF6800 currently has 12 SPARC III+ (1200 MHz) CPUs.
Since the Oracle/SAP colleagues are worried about performance as their
DB and SAPs rapipdy grow (and somehow they always come up with the cash
to buy/waste), we're considering a few hardware upgrade options:
1. adding 12 SPARC IV CPUs, or
2. replacing the 12 III+ CPUs with 12 IV CPUs, or
3. both (24 x SPARC IV CPUs)
The SF6800 is (and will remain) a single-partition domain and is in a
2 node Cluster with another SF6800 domain.
Anybody forsee/experienced any problems with mixing CPUs?
I'll admit I don't know too much about the HW details,
the SPARC IV has a dual-core but they share the L2 Cache.
Will 12 SPARC IV CPUs, give me the same performance as 24 SPARC III CPUs?
I doubt it.
Where's the "real" benefit, if any?
thanks,
