Backup System Choice Dilemma

Sorry if this is a bit off-topic but I am getting desperate.
I need to buy a backup system for our RAIDs. I have about $9000 to spend
and I want it to be able to back up at least 1.5TB unattended.

I have been offered a Sun StorEdge L8 with LTO2 together with Veritas
NetBackup Business Server (10 clients) for under this sum. I have also
been offered the Sony AIT 3 LIB-162 autoloader and the NEC-LTO2AL/10. I
could buy BakBone NetVault 7.1 Workgroup Edition or I could use Amanda.

The pluspoints of the Sun option is that it is all Sun and I can gain valuable
NetBackup experience. The Sony machine is very nice and I have been told good
things about the AIT 3 tape format. The NEC LTO2 machine has a 7 tape magazine
as well as three individual tape slots and so is easier to load or unload. I
have no experience of Amanda and don't know if NetBackup is better or worse.

I have the choice of a Sun Blade 150 650MHz and 1GB RAM, an E450 with twin
400MHz processors and 2GB RAM or a Dell 2.8GHz PC with Solaris 9 to run the
backup software on.

If you have any experience of any of the above, I would appreciate your input.
The Sun special EDU offer is only open until this Friday so I have to hurry if
I want to take advantage of this!

Regards,

Nick
