pkgadd error

 Sun Managers,

I am running Solaris 9 on SPARC. While I have been using other UNIX
variants, I am new to Solaris.

I just downloaded the binary package for Gnu C from the link on the Sun
Freeware site and I am trying to install
it. After gunzipping the packages, I get the following pkgadd error,
which does not seem to make sense to me.
What am I doing wrong? By the way, I see the same problem when issuing
the pkgadd command with other
downloaded packages. Obviously, I must be doing something wrong.
Thanks for any advise you can provide to resolve
this problem.
