A1000 disk replacement...

Hello all,

Solaris 2.8 - A1000 connected to V480 server..

Of late we have been getting the following error for one of
the disks in this fully populated (12x36GB) A1000 array.

                (So far twice. same disk)
Hardware error E003; Sense key 04; Drive id [2,4]

The Rmgr software online documentation says, it is a message
from the raid array to the driver software and if everything
works fine, no action needed!.

The 12 disks are made into a 10disk raidvolume, with 1 parity
disk (9+1). we have 2 standby disks also. they have not kicked
in yet.

This is a rather critical server for us and we decided to
change the indicated disk 2,4 and we have new disk now.

Typically, when there is a failed disk in a raid array, you
remove it, wait for 15 seconds are so, then place in the new
hot-plug disk and let it sync.

The disk problem does not seem to be severe at this point.

So should I go ahead and change the disk the (normal way)
like treating this disk [2,4] as a bad one? or wait for it
to die? would there be a problem, since this disk does not
seem to be officially dead yet?

thanks
your time/pointers/advice greatly appreciated.
will summarize.
Durai
