checkpointing iPlanet Directory Server

Hi Managers,

I'm trying to get an online backup of my iPlanet Directory Server 4.1x
database.

Database should be checkpointed in order to take a snapshot using
point-in-time software from the SUN Avalability Suite.

Directory Server includes a tool called db2bak for online backup but it
does too much for me:

      1. checkpointing database
      2. copy datafiles to another directory

...what I need is _only_ the first step but I cannot find any
documentation about forcing Directory Server to checkpoint its database.

Maybe anyone of you has a suggestion? Probably an Directory
Server/Availability Suite integration guide already exists?
