Hi there,
I was trying to clear disc space on a Solaris 8 box and though that
running...
echo > /var/adm/wtmpx ; echo > /var/adm/utmpx
...was a good idea!
Now I have the error message:
No utmpx entry. You must exec "login" from the lowest level "shell".
I have brought the system down to single user and can log in that way as
root..
Running who gives:
[root@fred]/$ who
Segmentation Fault
Not good.
A strings on the files gives:
[root@fred]adm$ strings wtmpx
.rlogin
r100/dev/pts/1
0.telnet
t100/dev/pts/1
[root@fred]adm$ strings utmpx
.rlogin
r100/dev/pts/1
0.telnet
t100/dev/pts/1
Could anyone shed some light on how to get this Solaris 2.8 box up and
running?
Many thanks in advance for any pointers,
S.
