Need to truncate wtmpx on a live system

I have a system that was (in my opinion) set up wrong. It has
a very small root file system, and /var is part of /.

I am out of space on the root partition now, and I have moved
what I can move for the most part.

/var/adm/wtmpx seems to have grown very large, and I was wondering
if there are any tools that can truncate it (preseving the data --
or to put it another way, live-split it perhaps), so that it does
not disturb the running system, and we don't lose any data. I just
want to be able to move some of the data in wtmpx somewhere else.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
