Hi,
I have a SunFire V880 and recently one of the mirror disk failed and I have to replace it.
I use Veritas Volume Manager to admin the disk. I tried to fool Veritas by making think that I change the disk using the vxdiskadm to remove the disk from the Volumen Manager and then Replace it but it didn't work.
At this point I'm pretty sure I have to physicali replace the disk.
I'm using the following the procedure to change the mirror disk:
1-Identify the disk with vxdisk ---> disk4mirr -->disk to be replaced.
2-Remove the disk with the vxdiskamd ---> done. The disk shows the status Removed and the device name.
3-Use luxadm to determine the box name and slot number --> done -- (FCloop,s9).
4-Use luxadm remove_device -F to take the disk offline --Not DONE yet.
5-Remove the Disk --NOT DONE yet.
6-Insert the disk with the command luxadm insert_device --NOT DONE yet.
7-Use vxdctl enable to notify the VM of the new disk -- NOT DONE yet.
8-Use vxdiskadm to replace the failed disk--NOT DONE yet.

I'm pretty much clear of all thesse steps but my question is:

How can I make that the drive I'm replacing is not in use anymore?
Do I have to Disable the mirroring for all the volumes? if so How do I do it? and how do I Enable it back?.
Do I have to remove the Pelx and associated sub-disk?, If so how can I tell what sub-disk are associated to the failed drive?.

Because I don't want to make any permanent damage to the info I have, and the last back up of the system is from the 15 and while the disk is failling it will not let me do a full back until I replace the disk.

I hope You can clarify my doubts.
Thanks in advance.
Kind Regards.
Randall Zeledon.
