RE: Help with Swap on a E450

         All, I have a sun e450 with 4 400mhz and 4gb of Ram with 4 GB
of swap on Solaris 8 rev27. For some reason when I logged into the
server to check on why a oracle cold backup was taking so long the
system had 17 processes swapped out via vmstat. Even after stopping the
backup, shutting down oracle and letting the system stand on OS only for
several hours the system still only had 64MB of virtual memory
available. I rebooted the system, and disable the oracle start script
and the system had 6GB of virtual memory available and system was idle.
As soon as I started the cold backup again the system dropped to 3GB
available within 1 hour. I stopped the cold backup which is
approximately 13GB when completed and system never recovers the swap,
the system will continue to run down to 64MB of available via vmstat and
processes will eventually run into the W column of vmstat. Any ideas? I
cant get the cold backup to finish within a reasonable time frame now,
it used to take 5 hours and now it takes 11 hours but the database has
not grown. Here is a vmstat output after 1 hour of shutting down oracle
and a ps -ef only has OS processes running.
