Positioning problem with Seagate LTO-1 tape drives

Dear Sun managers,

I'm having two Seagate LTO-1 tape drives connected via SCSI to an E3500.
The last couple of months I've started to get a lot of positioning errors
using these tape drives. The most annyoing part about it is that it locks
the drive and I have to manually unload the cartridge and power cycle the
tape drive to get it up and running again. In most cases the tape drive
can read the tape afterwards. We have replaced these drives once and I'm
starting to suspect a media problem. The strange thing though is that
sometimes I can read the media and sometimes not.

Anyone had similar problems like this and what could be the problem? I'm
really confused by this now and the support from STK and Sun is not the
fastest right now for some reason.

Thanks in advance,
Nickus
