Adding a modem to a V440

Hi folks,
I have just removed a working Multitech MultiModem ZDX
from an E3000 running Solaris 6
and plugged it into the 9 pin serial port on a new V440
running Solaris 8

I used admintool to configure the Modem on /dev/ttya as
for dial out only.
i.e.
# pmadm -l
PMTAG PMTYPE SVCTAG FLGS ID <PMSPECIFIC>
zsmon ttymon ttya u root /dev/term/a - -
/usr/bin/login - 9600 ldterm,ttcompat login: - - n #Modem - Dial-Out Only

I have added the following entry to /etc/remote
hardwire2:\
        :dv=/dev/cua/a:br#9600:el=^C^S^Q^U^D:ie=%$:oe=^D:

If I now try to tip to the modem i get the following error:
# tip hardwire2
all ports busy

Any ideas what is happening and how to fix it ?

Many Thanks.
Paul
