Hi - bit of a shot in the dark this one, but here goes! A colleague of mine
has been using rsync on a server running Solaris 8 (SPARC) and managed to blow
away everything in /var.
The server is running & I can log in fine. Its runs as an Apache web server
with ColdFusion. I am soon going to be asked if we can fix it!! At this time I
am not sure if he has backed the server up lately - I doubt it!
By using another server as a guide I could re-create the folders that have
gone, as far as log files in /var/log & /var/adm go I am not too bothered
about them for example.
But what about files in /var/sadm for example? Are there any critical files /
folders that live under /var that would stop the server booting for example?
Thanks - Julian.
