breaking Veritas root mirror for patch install

I'm interested in how folks manage their patching from
the perspective of backing out if a Solaris patch
bundle ends up rendering your host unbootable off the
primary boot device.

Specifically, I'm speaking about Solaris 2.6 and
Solaris 8 hosts running Veritas Volume Manager with
mirrored volumes in rootdg. I'd like to make sure that
I can boot off the former pre-patched O/S in case the
patch install fails.

Do you break mirrors before running install_cluster?
If so, do you attach the stale plexes ( rootvol-02,
usr-02, var-02, swapvol-02 ) to empty volumes?

Thanks,
Any input would be most welcome ....
