Dear Managers,

For quite a few months now we are in a process of evaluating a Mid-range SAN.

We are evaluating:

EMC Clariion CX500
IBM FASTt600Turbo
StorageTek D240
Hitachi Thunder 9570v
SUN StorEdge 6320

with two Brocade Silkworm 3900 or McDATA Sphereon4500 in classic dual switch
architecture

for the beginning for 12 servers:
5 SUN Solaris8 in double attachement (Veritas DMP),
5 SUN Solaris8 in simple attachement
 and 2 windows2000

and we are evaluating RAID5 with 73GB disks and
RAID1 with 146GB for the same initial capacity around 2TB

we will have Oracle databases on this SAN

de main concerns - FLEXIBILITY (lots of volume resize, creation and
destruction) and then performance.

We did:
- asked for integrated solutions
- visit the vendors test labs,
- got the hands-on the equipments
- carefully choosed the configurations and maintenance levels to have
comparable things
- read all available documentation and whitepapers
- got the book "Building SAN's with Brocade" ;-)

We would like to hear from you about your field hands-on experience and
stories with those vendors and equipments on SUN boxes (technical issues,
compatibility problems, performance problems, pitfalls to avoid, maintenance
service quality, commercial habits).

Mid-tier SAN it's a very dynamic market and the products are renewed very
often and this kind of information
it's very hard to find otherwise and I think that your knowledge could help a
lot of people out there.

Thank you for your time.
Adrian
