host name again

Thanks to all who responded and to Paul LaMadeleine who suggested the
following,

in the /etc/hosts table, try putting the fully qualified host name after
the IP with the sort name as the first aliase. Something like this:

192.168.1.20 myhost.mydomain.com myhost

This did correct the error but now when I send mail I receive the following
error,

- - - - - the following address had permanent fatal errors - - - -
jpremo@courts.state.ny.us
   (reason:550 Host unknown)
- - - - - transcript of session follows - - - - -
550 5.1.2 jpremo@courts.state.nt.us... Host unknown ( name server:
mailhost.courts.state.ny.us.: host not found)

I have xx.xx.xx.xx mailhost in my /etc/hosts file.

Any ideas ?

Thanks again,
Jason

Hi all,

One of my Sun servers keeps giving me a message when sending mail,

May 28 10:50:00 hostname sendmail [24861]: [ID 702911 mail.crit} My
unqualified host name (hostname) unknown: sleeping for retry
May 28 10:51:00 hostname sendmail [24861]: [ID 702911 mail.alert] unable to
qualify my own domain name (hostname) - - using short name

Does anyone have any ideas of what is going on or wrong with my system?
I have the FQDN in /etc/hosts and /etc/defaultdomain.

Thanks,
Jason
