I have a 2-way mirror of the boot-disk using SDS on Solaris 8. To backup my boot-disk I bring in a 3rd disk (of identical geometry) create the metadevices , attach it as a mirror and then detach it after it has resync'ed.
For example the 3rd disk has a metadevice d40 which I attach to d0
metattach d0 d40
Let it resync
metadetach d0 d40
Here's the question :
If I try to fsck the d40 submirror ( fsck /dev/md/rdsk/d40 ) after it has been detached, it gives me the following errors:
*INFO* - Running fsck on the /dev/md/rdsk/d40 metadevice

Also I find the inode I=539554 in the lost+found directory (this inode points to the root directory).
Can anybody help me with this problem ? Why can't we fsck a SDS/SVM metadevice. (I know I shouldn't be doing it on the physical slice if a metadevice exists).
Moreover this problem appears only for the root filesystem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and regards,
Vishal
