Ultra60 and 72GB drives SCSI errors

I've been trying to add some external 72GB drives to an Ultra60.

Running into a large number of SCSI timeout and reset errors. After working
for some period of time (hours to weeks) the drives will fail completely with
an audible 'clicking' noise.

I've already tried to replace the drives involved (several times) and do not
think its a cable issue.
I've also tried different manufactures drives (Seagate SEAGATE 73.4GB U160SCSI
68PIN 10K SEA-ST373405LW and Quantim Atlias 10K III) both types show the same
basic behavior. (The quantum seem to fail faster)

Basic configuration
Sun Ultra 60, 2X460Mh, 2Gb mem
Solaris 2.7, with recent (<2 months) public recommended patches.
2 Internal drives (18gb not involved in problem)
4 Drives on motherboard LVD controler
4 Drives on PCI card LVD controler
Using Sun Disksuite 4.2 for mirroring between the 8 external drives.
Core application running is oracle.
Thanks
Steven Back
