    Hello,

At our institute we use a SUN for the Atchiving SW DiskXtender.
The users are having only ftp access to the machine.(No entry for
users in /etc/passwd file). The DiskXtender has its own passwd file
and using a special port (1021) for ftp access. uname -a gives the
    following info:

     SunOS psispp 5.8 Generic_108528-16 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-4
I wanted to set a new password for a user since he has forgotten his.
I can not use passwd command since there is no entry for user
In /etc/passwd file. How can I create an encrypted string so that
I can put this string in passwd file of the DiskXtender SW.
I tried with crypt key <input file>outputfile without success.
The input file contains the password in ASCII format.I get a string in
output file which I put in passwd file without success.

How can create an encrypted string to add in passwd file?

Please send a copy of the reply in my E-Mail address:

    Thanks for your help.

    Regards,

    Kumar
